ROAD TO THE MDIV #4

Resource Spotlight: Is A Pastor’s Primary Responsibility to His Family?

It’s always fascinating when people take on giants. Either they’ll be squished or the giant slain — entertaining in any case. And so when I saw an article from The Gospel Coalition titled Is A Pastor’s Primary Responsibility to His Family?, I took the bait.

As a young guy working at a church gunning hard for pastoral work, I don’t think a week has gone by in the last year that I haven’t heard that twice-beaten-dead mantra. When I first heard it, I nodded my head and thought about it for the rest of the day. Now? It can feel like I’m being told to back off about wanting to, you know, pastor so darn much.

This article is an interesting and humble take on the phrase.

Finishing Intro to Philosophy

As of the date of this writing, I’ve officially handed in all of my Introduction to Philosophy assignments. And so I’ve pivoted hard to train my guns on Christian Spirituality 2. On the down low, I’ve already read my two textbooks for the course, and so I’m using the extra space provided to:

  1. Begin reading ahead for the course after this one (Christianity and Economics)

  2. Take on a meaty research paper which will take bookloads of careful reading (not the skimming that lets us students brag about how much we read)

I’m aiming to research Jonathan Edwards’s theology of revival. Which…

  1. Plays into my interests

  2. Has more contemporary relevance than most subjects

  3. Is more serious and worth researching than most subjects

Podcast News

We’re moving into our series on Gender. The three episodes will cover the following topics:

  1. Intersexuality

  2. Transgenderism

  3. Is the Bible sexist?

I’m more seriously considering the idea of switching the focus of Revolution to be less of these comprehensive series. While I love making this type of content, it’s difficult to make it at the quality I want it with the busyness of life. And so the potential switch I’m working on developing would be towards short form content which would follow the trajectory of my school work. (This would allow me to deliver well researched content without adding bucketloads of reading and writing onto my schedule.)

Easing the strain on weekly content would also open the opportunity to develop a series of Church History focused episodes which would be truly valuable (because there’s nothing like them on the market, whereas I realise more every day just how many Christian podcasts occupy the “generalist” field).
